Penang Trip

Well I never thought of having a trip to Penang since I just went there on Christmas in 2013 with my mom and her friends. Then, my friend, Jia Chee and I got offer to go usm to have interview for accounting course on 15 May which was Friday, so we decided to stay in Penang on the weekend to escape from the bustling life we've been going through lately.

Well, in short, the interview didn't go well and our moods were affected. I'm not going into details about the interview here, you can read my previous post if you wanna know more bout it.

We stayed at Wassup Youth Hostel which is located on Penang road, 3-5 mins walk to Komtar and First Avenue and some other malls nearby. We were totally famished and exhausted because we only had breakfast at around six in the morning until the interview ended at around five in the evening. We had Sushi King for dinner. It's funny tho, I know right, and guess what, KL's ones taste much better. We didn't have much activities at night cuz you know, the city isn't safe for two girls walking around at night. We spent the whole night planning what to do on the next day but things didn't go well and brought us to awkward situation. We then reached a decision which was to move without any plannings.

Second day, we rented bicycles and we cycled down the streets to find streetarts but we only found few. Here are some photos we took with the streetarts:

Along the streets, we bought some ice-creams because the sun was killingly hot and we sadly got sunburn.

This coconut ice-cream was like Sang Kaya but sold at cheaper price. It was RM6 for the ice-cream came with a small glass of cold coconut water. Overall, I would rate it 6 out of 10 because the red beans and the corns weren't nice.

This is called the 70's ice-cream. Basically, it's just ice ball which showered with syrup. I ordered Ribena flavor, expecting it's literally the Ribena flavor but it's blackcurrent flavor actually. In case you don't know what's Ribena, google it. The seller told us not to bite the ice but suck the water. I felt so stupid to buy this because it's RM3 but it took time to 'suck' the water. I would rather spend the money to buy a normal blackcurrent beverage. Seriously, sucking this iceball under the hot sun at the road side where everyone is looking at you isn't a good idea. I would rate it 1 out of 10.

On the way back to hostel, we were lost. So we went into a shop located at the Pantai Road for ice kacang and cendol.

Umm, I would say this cendol and ice kacang weren't the best yet in Georgetown. I would rate it 4 out of 10. Anyhow, the staffs were quite helpful to guide us the way back to our hostel.

When we backed to hostel, we took some rest for awhile before we went to Gurney Drive. We did something we always do in KL which we call it "lifeless activity" - shopping, technically it was window shopping because we didn't get to buy anything there.

Well, I insisted to go the the beach because I wanna take photo like this. Big thanks to Jia Chee for becoming my photographer for FOC during the trips. Of course we took some selfies there! :D We walk to the Gurney Drive food court and had our dinner there.

I had Asam Laksa and Penang Hokkien Mee which we call it as Prawn Mee in KL for dinner. Yes my stomach turned into a black hole which sucks all the nice foods into it. The Asam Laksa from the stall with Lim Guan Eng's photo was super nice! *thumb up for it* I would rate it 8/10.

Ohh I also bought rojak as our late night snack in the hostel. It tasted quite good, especially the sauce. I would rate it 6/10. *yummmmmy* Ohh, it's even published on newspaper!

Ohh ya, I found that Myteksi app is really an awesome app. We used it to call the cab. It's easy to use but RM2 charges is plus on the total bill. By the way, there was a taxi driver mistaken me as foreigner and offer me the ride at higher price, not metre. Perhaps it's because of my ootd? LOL.

Jia Chee has relatives live in Bukit Mentajam so they came to bring us for dinner and then go around Penang famous spots. The uncle and auntie were so friendly and funny. They brought us to Red Garden for dinner. It's another food court with all nice foods. Then, they brought us the the "surname bridge". We went to 姓周桥 and 姓李桥. Then we had a car ride to Kota Padang, Kek Lok Si and Penang Hill.

This is the photo taken at 姓李桥.

We were totally exhausted when we back to hostel. It was already eleven pm. Jia Chee was too tired so she slept very early and tight that night while I was writing postcard for my friends who have requested earlier when I asked on Twitter.

Third day, we had Asam Laksa to kick the day at Joo Hooi Cafe but it's was not as nice as the one we had at Gurney Drive. It's even worse than KL ones I would say. I would rate it 2/10.

Then, we finally found the famous Teow Chiew cendol which is located just outside the cafe. It was so delicious! 7/10!

Due to early flight, we didn't have much activities on the third day. After breakfast, we went to First Avenue to shop for half an hour before we depart to airport. I've been looking for stamps to post the postcards since day two but I couldn't find one. When I was inside the airport, done all custom checking, I finally found a shop that sells stamps. I thought I won't be able to go out to post the postcard but fortunately the polices were so nice and they allowed me to go out and back again but of course I had to go through second round checking. Then, flight went up, flight went down, we're in KL already.

During this three days two nights trip, I've learnt something and grown up a little. One of the lessons is learn to compromise with partner, be more considering. We have to give and take. Overall, this trip was really a good trip. I'm looking forward to my next trip to Pulau Perhentian with my bestie, Jia Chee and Yun Zhen in July. Hopefully this coming trip will be another good trip.

University Sains Malaysia Interview

University Sains Malaysia Interview

I've been looking for blog post like this before I went through the interview at USM but I barely find one. Therefore, I'm here to share my experience during the interview for 2015 Sept bachelor degree course intake and I hope that this post may guide you guys who have been chosen to go there for an interview.

Well, I only applied for accounting program. I received a sms from them about two weeks before the interview. *skip to D-day* After registering myself at the counter, I was given a goodie bag which contains a pen, and some booklets about usm and the accounting course. I was also given a form to fill. There were 10 questions if not mistaken. The questions were as below:

1. Why do you choose usm?
2. Why do you choose usm accounting?
3. What do you know about usm?
4. Who influences you to choose accounting?
5. Is usm your first choice?
6. What else uni you have applied?
7. What do you know about school of management?

Above are the questions I remembered so far. Sorry for couldn't list down all. I may have rephrased the questions. There were no accounting related facts questions been asked in the paper. Ohh, I met some seniors and they told me there was no such questions paper given to them when they interviewed.

The interview was four-to-one interview. Two were professors while two were outsiders. Basically, what you need to do is just convince them you won't reject their offer. They asked me to do self-introduction and then we had some chit chat about Korea as I mentioned that I love Korea very much. They also mentioned that among 500 candidates, they will only offer to 100 candidates and they want to make sure no one rejects them. As I applied for UM also, so they kept on asking me to make a stand between USM and UM. A lot of the candidates hesitated when been asked to choose. As an advice, prepare your "excuses" to convince them you don't want UM. Well, of course I had mine so yea, I think I passed that question. However, I was hesitated when I've been asked to choose between USM and Korean Uni IF I were given a chance to go there. Well, they're kinda sneaky that they caught my weak from the chit-chat we had earlier. Lastly, the interview took about 10-15 minutes each person. Ohh yeah, UM and USM have the priorities to choose first, so those who are rejected by them, then only will be sent to UPU. Umm, I think that's all from me, I hope this can help you to pass the interview with ease. Good luck! :D
